The Pope Francis fever

A testimony from one of the PYM members who was lucky to have a real encounter with Pope Francis during his visit at University of Sto. Tomas.

“We’re very lucky, totoong totoo na— Many are called but few are chosen”. These are words that I’ve always heard from the other volunteers for the Papal Visit. I wonder why they kept on telling themselves na “Iilan lang ang pinili, tayo ang napili ng Diyos”. I really beg to disagree because in the first place, all of us are Chosen; all of us are called; all we have to do is to respond to his call.

Our Parish Youth Ministry Head, asked me if I wanted to be one of the animators for the Papal Visit. I can just simply disregard his offer and tell him that I’m too busy with my personal life, yet I chose to say “Yes” and told him that I’m willing to give my time and efforts to attend the practices that we are going to have.

Being an animator and usher for the Papal Visit at the Pontifical University (University of Santo Tomas) is really a once in a lifetime experience. Personally, I had a lot of reflections and it made me realize that with just one “Yes”— everything has changed.

In his visit, our Holy Father delivered his message of “mercy and compassion.” All Catholic Filipinos grabbed the opportunity to take part in the programs for the Pope’s visit. It is not every day that we have a close encounter with the Pope; and once an individual has a chance to meet him, it will never be forgotten in his lifetime. We are also reminded of the good works of our Lord.  We ought to reflect and to remember the true essence of the Papal Visit—which is Jesus. We have also witnessed how Filipinos welcomed him with overwhelming love and prayers.

I hope that our country will still continue its spiritual growth even after the visit of the Pope. We should always remember our roots and keep our spiritual values alive! From all the difficulties we are facing in our everyday lives, let this be our chance to strengthen our values and faith and straighten the paths of our lives.
